How To Achieve Your Goals in 2020
Oh, it’s 2020?! When did that happen?
I am back on the blogging scene and my aim is to post once a month here on my website. I want to provide informative posts that make you feel positive and uplifted. I am going to be sharing a little bit of everything so stay tuned.
Back to this month’s post… 2020 goal setting *eeek… Exciting! Or scary?*
How many times have you set yourself a New Years Resolution only to find yourself forgetting all about it by February? In fact, the thought of a New Year can be stress-inducing and can cause anxiety for many. I know the feeling.
In this blog post, I am going to help you look at your goals for this year in a positive way. I don’t want you to feel anxious and alone and I want you to go away feeling uplifted, motivated and ready to face 2020 head-on. Remember, what you give power to… Has power over you.
Before I start with my tips, you can listen to my radio interview HERE on BBC Radio Lancs from 32:00 minutes onwards. I am talking all things January Blues and 2020 goal setting!
1. AGE IS NOT A BARRIER
Firstly, age should never stop YOU from achieving what you want to achieve. It is never to early or late to conquer your goals and explore the unknown. All you need is a little faith in your heart and you’re halfway there.
In the words of – F. Scott Fitzgerald:
‘For what it’s worth… it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit. Start whenever you want. You can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it’.
2. SEE HOW FAR YOU HAVE COME
My second tip in this list is looking back. In order to move forward, it’s important to honour our current situation, what we have already achieved, and celebrate the small wins that have brought us to this point. But remember, we should only ever look in the past to see our progress. Remember, positivity and an open heart always.
3. UNDERSTAND YOUR ‘WHY’
Why do you want to set goals for 2020? Why is it you want to achieve a certain goal? This is always a good starting point but you can refer to this ‘why’ when you lack motivation. Having a purpose behind the goal will create the foundations for success. Start with your ‘why’ and break it down from there.
4. WRITE IT DOWN
Write your goals down and keep them where you can see them. Set them as your desktop/phone wallpaper, write them on a post-it for your desk, write them in your diary/journal or create a vision board. The more we repeat and see our goals, the more likely we are to manifest them. I write mine down all of the time! It truly works and keeps me accountable.
5. DO NOT COMPARE
Your goals are for you. Don’t compare your success to someone else’s. You are doing this for you and that’s all that matters. Be brave, have faith and don’t let other peoples opinions stop you. If people speak negatively about you, that reflects more of their own choices — it has nothing to do with you. You are doing an incredible job.
6. STAY POSITIVE
Sound cringe? Well, we can all lose a little faith when things get tough or when we face a hurdle in our road. Sometimes, things don’t always turn out the way we wanted them to and this can be a beautiful blessing. Remember, we have to move several tonnes of dirt to see an ounce of gold. Keep digging, don’t give up, remember why you started and you will make this happen.
7. NOTHING SHOULD GET IN THE WAY
Choose yourself, prioritise your own self-care and remember, no job, relationship, friendship or situation should make you sacrifice your mental or physical health. Check-in with yourself and others and be mindful of your goals. Choose goals that are achievable and can be broken down into manageable chunks. You are human, it’s ok to take your time.
Remember to celebrate the little wins, have faith and keep yourself accountable. We don’t need a New Year to set goals… You can set them whenever you wish.
‘It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop’ – Confucius.
All my love and best wishes for 2020,
Come and say hey HERE.
