Happy mid-week everyone! This week I am bringing you my review of the Healthy Happy You Retreat. I was kindly invited by the wonderful founders of this event and I couldn’t be more grateful for their kindness. Thank you, Rebecca and Trisha! These two wonderful ladies radiate so much positivity! This retreat was based at the Sanctuary of Healing in Blackburn, a place full of positivity, natural spirit and tranquillity. The Sanctuary of Healing was the perfect location for this retreat and it created the most beautiful backdrop for a day of relaxation, positivity and motivation. Before I delve deeper into the pure beauty of the retreat. Let me tell you a little bit about the gorgeous location.

“The Sanctuary of Healing is a charitable trust with treatments, complementary therapies and classes open to anyone who seeks a place of calm and healing. Everyone is welcome to use the library, meditation rooms and cafe. We also run events, talks and healing courses”. 

The Sanctuary of Healing is a calm setting located in the heart of the Ribble Valley, with the natural woodland surroundings. They offer – massage, an infra-red sauna, psychotherapy, electromagnetic therapy, healing, crystal light therapy, classes including yoga and meditation and the most beautiful cafe which tries to cater to everyone’s dietary needs as much as possible. They serve a variety of home grown, freshly baked, gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free delights to tantalise everybody’s taste buds! They serve delicious breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea creating the perfect pit-stop before exploring the Sanctuary more.

The Beautiful Founders of Healthy Happy You

Are you in a need of some advice? Some inspiration or some help unwinding? This retreat is for you! A day full of relaxation, goal setting, yoga for beginners and nutrition advice. Throughout the whole day, you’re greeted with cups of tea and fresh fruit juices, as well as snacking on some healthy delights which contain 100% natural ingredients and are GF and 100% vegetarian. The day couldn’t have been more perfect. I can guarantee you’ll leave the retreat feeling refreshed and ready to take on your to-do list with a fresh mindset and a positive approach.

Rebecca wearing the fabulous avocado top! – Rebecca is a Nutritional Therapist who particularly specialises in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/M.E. She glows with good energy and her mantra is wonderful. Rebecca suffered from Chronic Fatigue for many years and she discovered that Nutritional Therapy and other medicines were what helped her in the stages of becoming stronger. This drove her inner passion to further study this area of science and learn about nutrition and the human body. ‘With a passion to help others be the healthiest they can be and feel great!’

Trisha who wears vibrant colours and radiates vibrancy! – Trisha Barker is a qualified Life Coach & NLP Practitioner who believes ‘we should break free from stress and burnout to improve our wellbeing in order to lead a happier, healthier life’. Trisha helps with your mindset, unravels obstacles and breaks them down, helps you have control over your life and much more. She is a wonderful woman.

The retreat began with some refreshments, a selection of treats were on offer and were available throughout the WHOLE day! Including carrot, orange and ginger juice (super delicious), pukka herbal tea (my favourite) and infused water (the perfect refreshment). I was overwhelmed by their herbal tea selection and I had to try some new ones, I was a huge fan of the three fennel.

After refreshments were distributed we started the day in the right way, with yoga and meditation which was guided by Emily Walker. Emily is another beautiful woman who really made an impact on my yoga experience and radiated good vibes throughout the whole session. I am new to yoga and meditation and she helped all abilities in the best way. The meditation really did take you somewhere else, she managed to encapsulate your troubles, put them to one side and allow you to totally connect with your inner being. Thank you, Emily!

When everybody was in a relaxed state of mind we had a small workshop with Trisha, the health coach. She helped us identify the areas for improvement in our lives and find solutions to those improvements. We also identified our weak areas and our stronger areas. She focused on the mindset and being positive and how we can implement small changes which make a huge impact. I learnt that believing in yourself and trusting the process is extremely crucial for development as a person. If you are completely lost and not happy with your life, Trisha supports you 100% and comes at your to-do list with a fresh and productive approach. Trisha has a great approach to obstacles and she truly has the magic to transform a bad situation into a good one.

Lunch time! 

Soon after we stopped for lunch and there was an array of difference dishes to choose from, all 100% natural and healthy. It was a dream come true! Inspiration from the dishes came from the following books listed below, all of which are my personal favourites. We had sweet potato wedges, homemade hummus and a quinoa and mixed pepper salad and much more! A rainbow was certainly created in the kitchen. All of the dishes could have been re-created at home, allowing you to truly experience delicious, healthy, food made easy.

I also felt incredibly blessed when they surprised us with some protein balls, banana bread and chocolate chip cookies. Of course, all of the sweet treats were organic and made from 100% natural ingredients. No nasties were included! Again, showing that puddings don’t have to be eliminated from your lifestyle, they can be adapted and changed and made even yummier. Chocolate and peanut butter = happy Jess.

After a long relaxing lunch and chatting to everyone, it was time to get comfy and listen to Rebecca talk nutrition. I learnt a lot from Rebecca’s session and it was great to have expert advice when it comes to nutrition and fuelling our bodies with the correct ingredients. I have always been a lover of the human body myself and I found this seminar fascinating. Good nutrition can be implemented into anybody’s lifestyle and Rebecca shows you how to do this, we left this session with a meal plan and some healthy recipes to try at home, some of Rebecca’s personal favourites! It was brilliant.

The laid back approach to the day was my favourite and I didn’t want the relaxation to end. We ended the day with cups of tea, sweet treats and vision board creating. Vision boards are a source of inspiration which can be a piece of artwork in your home or alternatively something for yourself to look at when you need a spark of motivation. Where do you want to be in 5 years time? Vision boards are great for visualising the ideal outcome, in a positive way.

The vision boards was a collective practice whilst discussing our goals and future ambitions. The array of magazines definitely helped this creative process. Selecting your favourite images, phrases and quotes to feature on your own board. All of the items you selected had to represent the goals you had set that day. This definitely embedded the hunger to succeed.

Trisha and Rebecca have the most beautiful vision boards! I definitely want to make mine just as colourful and unique. Vision boards are the perfect thing to gravitate towards if you’re having a low day or perhaps aren’t being as productive as you would like to be. The future is refreshing, enchanting and extremely exciting! Embrace it.

Goodie Bags and Selecting a New Mindset

The goodie bags were packed full of delicious snacks and treats as well as lots of other amazing gifts. In particular, I loved the positive affirmation card we all received, every card was different and was selected by the individual. I couldn’t believe the card I received and it really made me shed a tear. Comparing myself to other people has been something I have struggled with for a long time and now I have finally overcome that obstacle, this was confirmation that I have overcome that one challenge in my life. This goodie bag was a wonderful idea and it was great to sample some different health food brands.

I want to thank everyone who was involved in making this event happen! It was a wonderful day and I met some lovely people, people who all want to make a change for the better. It was inspiring, re-energising and calming. I feel honoured to have been part of such a great day.
