Pimp Your Salad – BOL Foods Style: Food Review
Happy Monday everyone! I am back again this week with another blog post. The sun hasn’t been shining that much here in Blackpool, but I am about to bring you some sunshine in the form of some delicious salad jars. I kindly got sent some salad jars from Bol Foods and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. In fact, I couldn’t wait to dig in and try the salads! They came presented in the most beautiful packaging, which represented their brand ethos almost immediately – ‘natural, healthy and interesting’.
I am a huge lover of travelling and exploring the globe; it is so enriched with amazing opportunities. Exploring the globe and trying all of the local delicacies is an uplifting and delicious experience! However, when you return from your holiday destination the food cravings begin and sometimes it is almost impossible to re-create the dishes you have had abroad. Bol Foods have it covered! They offer a brilliant range of salad jars, inspired by destinations around the world – The Californian, The Persian, The Mediterranean and The Japanese.
Food abroad can most definitely be indulgent! However, the salad jars are packed full of flavour and injected with pure, natural NUTRIENTS & GOODNESS. I am so impressed and I am so pleased I got the chance to sample them.
Not forgetting, how convenient these salad jars are. They are the perfect combination of elements! They are the ideal lunch, breakfast, mid-afternoon snack or dinnertime side dish. In a hurry? Grab yourself a salad jar and you are good to go in no time at all. Quicker than a takeaway! These jars are packed full of essential vitamins, keeping you fuelled for longer as well as allowing you to reminisce on your travels abroad. The perfect start or end to a day.
“Every BOL Salad Jar is a delicious, nutritious meal bursting with natural ingredients and flavour. With a fresh dressing and fork included, all you need to do is dress, shake & enjoy.”
“In the UK, most people don’t have a ramen stand at the end of their street. But supermarkets are everywhere. So in 2014, with the help of expert nutritionists, top chefs and some friends who feel the same way about food as I do, I set up BOL. BOL is all about making the most amazing dishes from around the world, fresh and ready to eat whenever you like. I can’t promise BOL will make you jump higher or win any medals. But I can promise it will always be interesting, healthy and deliciously good for you.” Paul Brown, Founder of BOL Foods.
‘To release the Greek god in you’
+ Vegetarian +
• Chickpeas • carrot • courgette • butternut squash• feta • with a lemon and sun-dried tomato dressing •
This was one of my favourites! I am a huge lover of feta cheese and butternut squash, especially when they come together in one dish. This was the one salad jar I took with me on the go; it kept me energised right up until dinner time in the evening. The tangy flavour of the feta with the warming flavours from the butternut squash and sun-dried tomato dressing was the perfect combination of flavours and textures. This was so yummy and it definitely made me think about somewhere exotic. If you want something hearty & tummy ‘hugging’ – then this is the one for you.
‘For a touch of middle eastern spice’
+ Vegan and Vegetarian +
• Cauliflower • cooked beluga lentils • chickpeas • spinach • with a pomegranate and sumac dressing •
This is so vibrant and full of colour! If you’re a cauliflower lover, you will love this. The spiced cauliflower combined with the sweetness of the pomegranate seeds creates an explosion of flavours in your mouth! The added crunch that the pomegranate seeds provides adds another dimension to this salad. The chickpeas are dense in texture and add extra ‘bulk’ to the salad, providing additional energy and keeping you satisfied for longer. The dressing is delicious and of course also adds extra colour and flavour to your dish. Dressings are optional! And you can add as much or as little as you like. Decorate your dish and enjoy. Or alternatively – add the dressing to your salad in the jar, pop the lid back on, give it a good shake & it is ready to be enjoyed!
‘For the beach body kale queens’
+ Vegan and Vegetarian +
• Broccoli • cooked quinoa • black beans • cannellini beans • tomatoes • kale • pumpkin seeds • with a soy & white miso dressing •
This was the first salad jar I tried from the box and it instantly made me feel excited to try the other ones in the collection. I enjoyed this as a side dish accompanied by chicken and sweet potato for extra carbs and protein. However, this salad can, of course, be eaten on its own with the dressing! The sweetness of the tomatoes, the tangy flavours from the dressing and the crunch from the seeds and green vegetables makes this the perfect jar for textures, sounds and flavours. So delicious, extremely satisfying and so rich in colour. How beautiful does this look presented on a plate? The perfect salad for any dinner party! Healthy eating is made so much easier with these salad jars, the dressing doesn’t drown the salad, it enhances the natural flavours from the vegetables, quinoa and beans.
‘Because some like it RAW’
+ Vegan and Vegetarian +
• Cooked black rice • raw slaw • edamame beans • black beans • tender stem broccoli • with a soy, white miso and ginger dressing •
If I had to choose a favourite, this would be it! This reminded me of some of the cuisines I enjoyed whilst abroad in Singapore. The flavours, textures and colours reminded me of my visit to Singapore and this made me smile so much. I had this straight after my workout and accompanied it with some fried eggs on the side for extra protein. Again, this can be enjoyed on its own with the dressing (personal preference). Tenderstem broccoli is one of my favourites and it went so well with the black rice and the crunch provided from the raw slaw. The dressing was my favourite! It was so delicious and it added just the right amount of ‘kick’ to the salad, it enhanced all the natural flavours from the vegetables and the rice. Dress your salad, pop the lid back on, give it a shake and you’re ready to go! (Don’t forget to take a picture too!)

Yes, these jars also have another purpose and it is up to you how you recycle them. This is extremely good for the environment and is a great way to get things organised. I can’t wait to use my jars and fill them full of goodies. I am thinking overnight oats may be a good option?
