“Enjoy life & eat the cake.”
What I Eat in A Day – April
This weeks post is all about what I eat on a normal day at home. I don’t diet and I don’t restrict myself from anything – I eat the foods I love and I like to think that I live a healthy and maintainable lifestyle. I don’t believe in diets or restricting yourself from things. ‘Juice cleanses’ and a week long detox are not very good in my eyes, neither of these things worked for me in the past. In fact, they had a negative effect on me resulting in a negative mindset, body shaming, and low energy levels, amongst other things too.
Some foods I don’t eat now because they don’t make me feel good & they irritate my digestion. However, I eat chocolate almost every day without fail and I love chips, pizza, and Chinese takeaway food as well as lots of other things including donuts, Reeses peanut butter, and donuts! Of course, I indulge and eat out because it makes me happy and I like to have that balance because this makes the lifestyle more maintainable & that means I can still maintain a social life.
Of course, you can indulge and enjoy the foods you love, don’t restrict yourself if you are wanting a maintainable ‘lifestyle’. Just enjoy them within moderation. Don’t every feel guilty for eating that slice of chocolate cake, tomorrow is a new day and a new day to attack your workout and keep your food on track. Work hard and have a positive mindset towards your food. Eat lots of vegetables, fruits and grains. Enjoy it, food is fuel for your body and helps you have energy, so it is important to eat well.
Some days I don’t workout because I have other commitments but this is ok, I compromise and make sure I am getting all my nutrients in that day and having a positive day doing lots of other tasks.
“A balanced diet is an ice cream in each hand.”
This diary of my food is taken on a day I had been to the gym. I am not a nutritionist and I have not studied food or medicine or any of those things! So all I am showing is the food I eat & what works for me. This can be adapted to everyone.
Meat can be replaced with a vegetarian option and all meals can be changed to your preferred taste. I enjoy eating these foods and they make me happy, these meals can be doubled or tripled depending on how many people you are feeding, just experiment and have fun. I am not vegan or vegetarian so all meals will feature a range of different ingredients.
On this day, I ate at home & didn’t go out for food.
Breakfast pre-workout – 8am Zoats – check out the more in-depth recipe here! –
- ½ cup of porridge oats
- ½ grated courgette
- Almond milk & some water.
- Topped with berries and 85% dark chocolate.
- Drinks – green tea and water.
Post workout snack & a small bottle of water – 10:45am – on the way home I snacked on some green grapes and some almonds.
Post workout meal & a glass of water – 11:45am/12:00pm –
- Last night’s leftovers of quinoa with mixed stir fry vegetables
- Wilted spinach
- Last night’s chicken breast leftovers & a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds.
Afternoon snack & a glass of water – 2:00pm/2:30pm – a smoothie bowl! I love smoothie bowls so much. Sometimes I have them for breakfast and sometimes I like having them as an afternoon pick-me-up for an instant dose of good sugar.
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 handful of frozen summer fruits
- 1 handful of ice
- Homemade granola – my recipe is here
- A spoonful of Total 0% Fage Greek Yoghurt
Evening meal & water – 5:30pm –
- Roasted sweet potato with chicken and stir-fried greens. Delicious! Sometimes I like to eat the majority of my food with mango chutney, not so good for you, but I love it.
Pudding/evening snack, green tea & water – 7:00pm/7:30pm –
- Total 0% Fage Greek Yoghurt
- Almond milk
- Homemade granola
- Sliced banana
- Cashew butter & dark chocolate.
Late evening snack – because I was craving chocolate and that’s what I was going to eat – some Easter egg chocolate, a few Cadbury mini eggs and a green tea. – all within moderation. This was delicious.
- Additional snacks throughout the day – nuts, sliced apple and grapes.
I hope you enjoyed reading this weeks blog post & I hope it inspired you too. I would love to know what you eat and what your favourite meals are! All of this food I ate in this day I loved and I am extremely grateful for, it fuelled my workout and the rest of my day. It kept me feeling energised and positive. What changes are you going to make?
I hope you have a lovely week. Stay positive, enjoy your food and be grateful always.
