The Things I Do To Unwind

What I do to Unwind

“Everyone should smile. Life really isn’t that serious. We make it hard. The sun rises. The sun sets. We just tend to complicate the process.”

Finding time to unwind is extremely challenging and can almost seem as a time wasting activity. However, taking time out of your day for 10 minutes to chill out is extremely important for your own inner happiness and it is also a key aspect of being positive and having the correct mindset (in my own opinion).

Sometimes I am so busy doing assignments, going to the gym and focusing everything towards work I forget to take the time to myself. I almost feel guilty when I do things to chill out, but this is crucial. If we don’t chill out now we will go on overdrive and end up ‘over doing things’.

Just 10 minutes a day to chill out! This could be before bed or in the morning with your breakfast. Sometimes people like to dedicate a whole day to chilling out or organising. That’s great too! However, if you don’t have the time – 10 minutes a day works well.

I like having some headspace to gather thoughts and become happier within. My main goal this year is to have inner positivity and become happier within myself. This is a challenging goal, but if it weren’t challenging it would not be worth it, right? I mostly certainly think it can be achieved! Starting by finding 10 minutes a day to find “headspace”.

Let’s take some time away from the Internet to enjoy the things that surround us. Appreciating the things we have around us is so important to feel fulfilment. Sometimes we get so suffocated by our work routine we forget to appreciate the beautiful things that surround our souls. Although we are faced with challenges, every single one of us has something magical within our lives and that is unique to us. Here is how I take some head space.

Reflecting and writing in my diary

This is something I have taken more seriously the past few months. Reflecting over the day, week or month has been a good way for me to put things into perspective and have a more positive mindset. Clearing my mind from thoughts, feelings and worries that haunt me. I take either, 10 minutes in the morning with my breakfast or just before bed to fill out my “5-year journal” this is a journal with 365 questions, one question per day. This is a good way to see how you progress as a person over time and it is certainly a fun way of keeping a diary.

Yes! Colouring! I have always been really creative and have always had the passion for experimenting with colour whether that’s interior design, fashion or crafts. Colouring is something I do when I need some time out from other activities. It helps me relax and it is extremely therapeutic. I have a little collection building and have some fabulous felt tips to go along with them. Colouring is most definitely for adults too. Colouring is productive; as you are creating beautiful pictures, which would make great gifts for friends and family!

I adore baking and experimenting in the kitchen. I love combining flavours and producing wholesome meals! A recent book I got for Christmas is full of recipes for cakes, cookies and homemade natural tea. All of which appeal to me! Baking is something I find extremely therapeutic too and can be a way of making healthy treats for the week ahead. Although, this is relaxing it is something productive too. Sometimes, if I have less time to bake, I like to mark pages of potential recipes I am interested in to come back to later.

Pamper Yourself

We all deserve to pamper ourselves. Whether that is eating some delicious food at a restaurant, buying a new outfit or having a relaxing bath. We all deserve some alone time. Having a bath and painting my nails allows me to relax and gives me time to reflect, away from the Internet and social media. Although I love social media, sometimes taking time away is just as lovely.

What is happening next?

I have a new blog post coming up very soon featuring a new recipe I have created using my new Nutribullet. I am totally obsessed and this has been something else I have added to the list of things that help me relax. 2016 is going to be amazing, you are in control of your year, make it special and make every moment count.

“Let yourself rest.”
